The Operator
invariant = extract(system) where a disposable origin drops out
Every core PWT instance examined so far is a disposable-origin system, and this operator describes the extraction they share. Topics with physically marked origins (e.g. thermodynamic temperature) are outside this operator’s scope. It is not a metaphor applied across domains — it is an algebraic act that produces the same structure wherever a disposable origin is present. The domains differ. The operator does not.
Historical form: “Source cancels. Only the invariant of the relationship remains.” Tightened Aug 2026 after temperature (fifth-domain cold test) revealed that not every absolute is disposable. “Disposable” now does the work “Source” was doing. See Temperature as Boundary Case below.
What the Operator Does
In every measurement, every crossing, every test of authenticity, there is an origin and a relational invariant. The act of extraction — the line integral, the ratio, the weighing, the factorisation — eliminates the origin and preserves the invariant.
When the origin is disposable (a gauge choice, a conventional zero, an arbitrary label), it drops out and the invariant is all that remains. The four core instances below are all of this type.
When the origin is non-disposable (physically marked, measurable in consequences), it does not drop out, and the operator’s scope ends. Temperature is the domain that revealed this boundary. See below.
What survives is the relationship between components — the winding number, the reflection coefficient, the prime residue, the weight against the feather. This is the invariant: the thing that does not change when a disposable origin is added or removed.
Four Instances, One Operator
Aharonov-Bohm: Source cancels in the line integral
The magnetic vector potential A is defined only up to a gauge — an arbitrary function added to Source. The constant cancels in the closed line integral ∮ A · dl. What remains is the winding — the topological invariant. The electron reads the relationship (the enclosed flux), not the absolute potential.
The field B (ONM 8 — derived, composite) is confined inside the solenoid. The potential A (ONM 6 — relational scaffold) leaks through. The electron (prime-2) does not need the composite field to be present. It reads the scaffold directly.

Smith Chart: Source cancels in the Möbius map
Absolute impedance Z is unmeasurable — every measurement is relative to a reference. The Smith Chart performs a Möbius transformation: Γ = (Z - Z₀) / (Z + Z₀). The reference impedance Z₀ sets the scale, but the ratio is the invariant. Centre = match = transparent membrane (Γ = 0). Rim = mismatch = total reflection (|Γ| = 1).
The entire unbounded impedance plane maps onto a finite disk. Source (the absolute) is absorbed into the transformation. What remains is the reflection coefficient — how much of the signal crosses the boundary, and how much bounces back.

Nagaπ’s Law: Source cancels in the authenticity test
At any membrane, the question is not “what are you absolutely?” but “can you be factored?” A prime crosses by default — it IS its own identity, irreducible, nothing to decompose. A composite must mimic a prime to cross — it must present a false invariant.
The label (name, disguise, story) is Source dressing. Chelation therapy strips the label. What remains is the factorisation — the actual structure. The membrane doesn’t ask what you call yourself. It asks what you’re made of.

Duat / 49 Days: Source cancels in the weighing of the heart
The story the self told itself while alive — the narrative, the justification, the composite autobiography — is Source dressing. The 42 assessors don’t ask what you believed. The feather doesn’t weigh your intentions.
The heart is placed on the scale. The composite accumulation (appetite, habit, unresolved structure) weighs against Maat (truth, the irreducible). What cannot be factored further is what passes. Ammit eats the rest — composite consuming composite.

The Operator in ONM Terms

Why This Is Not Analogy
Analogy says: “A is like B.” The source cancellation operator says: “A and B are both outputs of the same function applied to different inputs.”
The Smith Chart is not like the weighing of the heart. They are both instances of:

The invariant (Γ, phase, factorisation, prime residue) has the same algebraic character in every case: it is the part that does not change when you add or remove the unobservable ground. This is what the four instances show. (Status: pattern — demonstrated across four independent domains.)
The stronger claim — that the operator predates the dialects, that the substrate is older than the vocabularies — is the ONM thesis. It is what the pattern suggests, not what the pattern proves. The four instances show structural identity. Whether that identity reflects a single underlying operator or independent convergence on the same form is the open question the framework is built to investigate. (Status: proposed — consistent with all instances, not yet independently testable.)
Temperature as Boundary Case
Temperature is the fifth domain, derived cold by an independent tester (Grok, Aug 2026) without ONM vocabulary or domain suggestions. It found the operator’s boundary.
Where the operator holds (affine temperature): Celsius and Fahrenheit zeros are conventional — disposable origins. Add 273.15 to every Celsius reading, or shift Fahrenheit by 32, and every difference used in calorimetry is unchanged. Fever as “two degrees above baseline” is the extraction. The everyday zero drops out. The interval remains.
Where the operator breaks (thermodynamic temperature): Kelvin zero is physically marked — the point where thermal motion reaches its limit. It is not a convention. You cannot add an arbitrary constant to kelvin and keep the same Carnot efficiency (1 - T_c/T_h), the same blackbody spectrum, or the same Third Law. The absolute is part of the physics. Ratios of kelvin temperatures are meaningful; ratios of Celsius temperatures are not.

The operator, as originally written (“Source always drops out”), silently assumed every absolute is gauge-like. Temperature shows three different statuses an origin can have: dummy, conventional-but-measurable, and physically marked. Only the first is the Aharonov-Bohm / Smith move. The third is a counterexample to the unrestricted form.
The tightened operator — “a disposable origin drops out” — survives. The four core instances all have genuinely disposable origins. The operator is real but scoped. Temperature is how you tell disposable from not.
(Credit: this boundary was found by letting a tester pick a domain we had not dressed. The exception was not predicted by the operator. It was discovered by testing the operator against an undressed domain.)
The Institutional Failure Mode
When the operator is transmitted without its algebraic content — when the procedure is preserved but the invariant is lost — the result is mysticism. The feather becomes poetry. The line integral becomes a mathematical curiosity. The Smith Chart becomes a nomogram. The membrane becomes a metaphor.
This is composite transmission: the surface (Source dressing) crosses the generational boundary, but the prime content (the operator) does not. The institutional compositing described in [[duat-49-days-factorisation]] is this failure mode applied to knowledge itself.

What We Don’t Know

Are there domains where Source does NOT cancel?ANSWERED (Aug 2026): Yes. Thermodynamic temperature has a privileged origin (kelvin zero) that is measurable in consequences (Carnot efficiency, Third Law, thermal radiation). This origin does not drop out. The operator’s scope is restricted to disposable origins. - Q-SC-05: What marks an origin as disposable? Physics already names the fork without ONM vocabulary: affine versus based, gauge versus observable, conventional zero versus Third-law zero. Is there a general criterion, or is disposability domain-specific and must be checked case by case?
