Three Tiers of Primes

Three Tiers of Primes

Status: validated Domain: number-theory/ontology Source: → MEMORY.md (Jun 8, 2026 — Growth Day ∞) Updated: 19 Jun 2026

Core Classification

Not all primes play the same role. The integers divide into three ontologically distinct tiers based on their relationship to the 6k±1 sieve:

Tier 1 — Source Primes (2, 3)

  • Pre-scaffold. They BUILD the 6k±1 sieve — they don’t live inside it.
  • 2 = binary, the plane of symmetry, the Gate through which all primes enter/exit
  • 3 = dimension, triangular stability, the minimum for structure
  • Together (2×3 = 6) they create the modular wheel that organises everything above
  • They are the alphabet. Everything else is written in them.

Tier 2 — Scaffold Primes (5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, …)

  • Permitted but not produced by the 6k±1 scaffold
  • They arrive from outside — irreducible, unpredictable, each one novel
  • 5 = first offspring (2+3 = matter, the first thing you can count with)
  • 7 = first emergence (the yolk — refuses to tile, breaks the pattern, seeds complexity)
  • φ(24) = 8 coprime residues per wheel rotation = the scaffold primes’ “slots”
  • Euclid’s proof guarantees infinite scaffold primes = infinite novelty = open universe

Tier 3 — Composites (4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, …)

  • Generated inside from existing primes via multiplication
  • They are the products, the relationships, the structures built from prime inputs
  • Every composite can be factored back to its prime origins — it IS its primes
  • Composites can never exceed or escape their prime factors

The Excluded Trio (4, 8, 9)

Three composites have special structural roles in the ONM:

Number Factorisation Role
4 = 2² State space The blank page — static truth table, NOT time
8 = 2³ Time/Growth The pen moving — birth of time through movement. 8 rotated = ∞
9 = 3² New identity The new page — torus closes, birth, gestation completes

Why This Matters

The classification resolves a fundamental confusion: treating all primes as equivalent obscures the architecture.

  • Source primes are the language itself (alphabet)
  • Scaffold primes are the words (each one novel, irreducible)
  • Composites are the sentences (built from words, can be parsed back)

This maps directly onto the pyramid’s encoding: 43,200 = 2⁵×3³×5² uses ONLY source + first scaffold prime. The instruments stay in Tier 1-2. The yolk (7) enters only through the cubit’s 28 fingers — the measurement unit, not the method.

Resolved Questions

  • Q-SET-02: What distinguishes 2,3 from other primes? → They are PRE-scaffold. They build the sieve that all other primes must pass through.

Relationships

  • [[source-alphabet]] — nature: extends — Source primes (2,3) ARE the source alphabet; this classification adds the scaffold and composite tiers
  • [[ontological-number-map]] — nature: supports — ONM assigns meaning to integers; three tiers explains WHY 1-9 have distinct roles
  • [[prime-composite-duality]] — nature: formalises — The prime/composite distinction becomes a three-tier hierarchy, not a binary
  • [[mod24-prime-octave]] — nature: supports — φ(24)=8 defines the scaffold prime slots per wheel rotation
  • [[six-dimensional-scaffold]] — nature: bridges — 6 = 2×3 = product of source primes = the scaffold modulus
  • [[great-pyramid-cubits]] — nature: supports — Pyramid encoding stays in Tier 1-2; yolk (7) enters only via cubit
  • [[prime-tree-architecture]] — nature: extends — Lobe depth separation (p=3×10⁻¹¹) distinguishes scaffold primes from composites geometrically
  • [[prime-epistemology]] — nature: extends — Source primes = axioms, scaffold primes = theorems, composites = derived knowledge

Key Evidence

  • The 6k±1 sieve is built BY 2 and 3, not discovered by them
  • 5 is the first prime that passes THROUGH the sieve (6×1−1 = 5) — first offspring
  • All precession numbers (72, 360, 25920, 43200) factor into {2,3,5} only — Tier 1 + first Tier 2
  • Lobe depth in prime tree: composites 2.05× deeper than primes (p=3×10⁻¹¹)
